Cataracts

Almost 2 million cataract surgery procedures are performed every year in the U. S.  Modern cataract surgery offers quick recovery, minimal interference with lifestyle, and even special choices for your vision. A cataract is a clouding of the natural lens of the eye.  Common convention says that cataracts are a film over the eye, but this is not so.  The lens is inside your eye, just behind the iris (the color part of your eye).  This lens focuses the light on the back of your eye, the retina. Over time, this lens which was clear, becomes cloudy and must be removed for good vision to be restored.  A small cut is made in the eye, and the cataract is removed with a ultrasonic device.  An artificial lens, made of clear flexible material is then placed inside the eye where the cataract was before.  This lens never gets cloudy and never needs replacing under normal conditions. Dr. Lyon will assess your eyes and develop a plan along with you to achieve your best vision.
